COLLEGE STATION, Texas, November, 2017 - TAMU Acquires 20 Inch Dobsonian Telescope
The Texas A&M Physics and Astronomy Teaching Observatory was the recent beneficiary of a 20 inch Obsession telescope. This beautiful piece of equipment provides a fantastic view of the sky and its bright and faint objects.
Tim Cowden, Tom Campbell, Joel Carmona, and Karl Aufderheide assembled and aligned the large Dobsonian telescope, and Don Carona, manager of the observatory, graciously allowed the BVAC access to the Dobsonian.
Be sure to read the full article about the telescope, written by Tim Cowden, in the Winter Edition of the Observer.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, January, 2018 - Observer Newsletter Coming Soon
Four BVAC e-newsletters, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall editions, will be distributed in 2018. The Winter Edition is set to arrive in January; look for it to arrive shortly after the new year.
BVAC is looking for articles and photos for the Spring edition, and everyone in the club is encouraged to participate to help make the newsletter interesting and relevant to the hobby of astronomy.
Tom Campbell has graciously agreed to write a recurring feature that lists sky targets relevant to the upcoming months during each newsletter period. His article in the Winter Edition will be a great reference to use as you stargaze in the winter months.
Another recurring feature relates to outreach activities conducted by BVAC members. We want to be sure to let our reading audience know how club members share their time, equipment, and knowledge with the general public to promote the science of astronomy. If you are involved with any type of outreach activity, please take your cell phone, snap a few photos, and send them to firstname.lastname@example.org, accompanied by a short explanation of the activity.
The Contact page and Meeting page will remain the same in each edition as it contains important information about the BVAC for those who may want to join the club or follow club activities.
