New BVAC Website

The Brazos Valley Astronomy Club has a new website and members are encouraged to use it as a reference to enhance their observing sessions. The website url is http://brazosvalleyastronomyclub.org.

Observing Tools

Of particular interest on the Observing Tools menu are a couple of helpful sky events pages for 2018. The "2018 Celestial Events Calendar" can give you a bird's eye view of some major events for the year, while the "2018 Celestial Events Calendar" has a bit more detail. Be sure to double check the dates of the events prior to placing them on your agenda.

Under that same menu item is a weather forecast page with different wether forecast links to use as you plan your night under the stars.

Club Activities

We are always looking for stories to add to the website. Hopefully we can start posting more photos and stories about outreach activities, star parties, and club events. Everyone is encouraged to take a cellphone while you are out and snap a few photos for the site.

The Solar System

The Solar System Events menu has a list of conjunctions and a lunar eclipse event that will be coming up in 2018. Be sure to put those on your calendar and see how many you can catch. Under this same menu item is a series of photos of the phases of the moon that were taken by Derek Kuhl, Randy Light, and Ginger Wentrcek.

Messier Objects

Photos of the Messier objects, their types, common names, and NGC numbers can be found on this page.

Astrophotography

There are some extremely talented members of the BVAC who excel in astrophotography and astro videography. Currently, Randy Light's astrophotography and Tom Campbell and Derek Kuhl's astro videography are posted. More images and videos will be added in the near future.

Links

A collection of links that covers everything you can imagine about astronomy is listed on this page. If you have some favorites that you do not see, mention it to Ginger and it will be added.

Wrapping Things Up

The last two menu items, "Meetings" and "Contact," tell our readers about the Brazos Valley Astronomy Club, when and where we meet, and how to reach us.

If there is a particular feature that would help with your observing endeavors and you do not see it on the website, let Ginger know and every effort will be made to include it.
