Mike Holmes Presents Astrophotography and Astronomy DIY Projects

Mike Holmes, a retired electrical engineer, presented a program about his recent DIY astrophotography projects to members of the Brazos Valley Astronomy Club on October 18, 2019. His projects included the following:

Battery Box
Cable Management/Equipment Mounting Plate
Dew Heater Controller
Motorized Focuser
Rain Sensor
Power Supply
Bahtinov Mask
Finder Mounting Bracket

Mr. Holmes also treated the audience to a viewing of his astrophotography images. As the images were displayed, he provided camera settings and shared the process he used to photograph the deep sky objects. One surprising aspect of his photography is the fact that the images were taken from a location inside a fairly large neighborhood that is in close proximity to light pollution associated with city lights.

After the slide show presentation, BVAC members were invited to examine each of his projects and ask questions about the construction process.
