From Tom Campbell
Saturday, October 5, 2019 has been designated as Astronomy Day and International Observe the Moon Night. To celebrate, I've been trying to find a venue to set up a star party where the public can come and look at the moon and planets.
The Ringer Library has graciously agreed to host the venue for us once again and is even helping out with advertising the event. We were unable to do any afternoon activities due to prior commitments at the library. However, we will hold the event from 7-10 p. m. We will have use of their board room, and possibly the lobby, for activity tables and can still do some fun indoor activities as well as set up our telescopes for some outdoor observing.
Last time we were there, they were able to turn off some of the back parking lot lights, which helped out a lot. I think we'll set up there and do the same thing this time around.
We can discuss the details at our next meeting, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up so they can mark their calendars and begin to think about ways they might want to help out. The event has been posted to our Facebook page and to the library's Facebook page and we are already building up an interest.
